Horizon is a residential development in Frankston that reframes downsizing as a considered, design-led choice. Set along the edge of Port Phillip Bay, the project draws directly from its coastal context, shaping an architecture that is both relaxed in character and precise in execution.

The building is organised through a series of extended horizontal planes that reach outward from its core, echoing the long lines of the beach, pier and boardwalk. Its mass is subtly pinched at the sides to open up sightlines, ensuring that even apartments positioned to the rear maintain visual connection to the bay. The effect is a building that feels stretched toward the horizon, tuned to light, air and outlook.

A biophilic sensibility runs throughout. Deep balconies are planted with native coastal species, softening the edges of the architecture and creating a lived threshold between interior and landscape. Inside, apartments are defined by generous proportions, natural ventilation and a restrained material palette that recalls the ease of a seaside retreat without resorting to cliché.

The project’s program is calibrated to the expectations of downsizers, prioritising amenity over excess. Shared executive spaces can be booked as needed, allowing residents to host, work or gather without expanding their private footprint. A basement workshop and climate-controlled wine cellar consolidate functions often lost in apartment living, while adding a layer of practicality that feels quietly luxurious.

At the rooftop, the building opens out to a more communal rhythm. Wellness studios, plunge pools and hot tubs are oriented toward expansive views of the bay, while dining and barbecue spaces frame the distant Melbourne skyline. Together, these elements position Horizon as both retreat and vantage point.

In its balance of restraint and generosity, Horizon reflects a renewed confidence in Frankston’s foreshore. It is a project shaped as much by memory and atmosphere as it is by program, offering a coastal life that is pared back, but not diminished.
